As usual, there is much to add to your calendar this week. The upcoming agriculture events include webinars, conferences and workshops. Here is a rundown of the events and opportunities for the next seven days. Email to have your event added to our weekly calendar.

Hello Mzansi! It’s the last week of October and, as usual, agriculture continues to be laden with opportunity. We start the week off with Food For Mzansi’s #FarmSpaces on Twitter, as well as the 2021 APBA Conference for plant breeders. Various agricultural and banking stakeholders meet on Thursday to discuss solutions to fertiliser financing, and RegenAg SA hosts regenerative agriculture workshops on Saturday.

Hosted by Agritecture, and sponsored by BIOS Lighting, this webinar is centred on the use of LED lights in agriculture. Exploring plant breeding in Africa

The African Plant Breeders Association (APBA) Conference 2021 is taking place this Monday. Hosted by the University of Ghana, the conference will let scientists, students and African professionals from higher education institutions, research organisations and private companies explore plant breeding on the continent.

Topics under discussion include scientific plant breeding and related research, the growth of plant breeders in Africa and engagement with government and international agencies.

Hosted by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), this webinar looks at how targeted investment can contribute to achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The webinar includes speakers from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Enel Green Power and IFAD.

On the frontlines of food safety

Ensuring global access to safer food is an ongoing problem. This Thursday, Food For Mzansi and FairPlay unpack the food safety issues plaguing South Africans and South African farms, retailers and the food industry. Topics under discussion include potentially contaminated food, monitoring imports and curbing predatory trade practices.

Collaborating to secure fertiliser finance

Hosted by Africa Fertilizer Financing Mechanism, African Development Bank Group, Afriqom and African Fertilizer and Agribusiness Partnership (AFAP), this webinar hopes to strengthen regional collaboration in the agribusiness value chain in order to finance fertiliser.

2021 Arrell Food Summit

The 4th annual Arrell Food Summit, hosted by the Arrell Food Institute, is an online conference with the theme “Turning ideas into action”. Issues and topics that will be explored are entrepreneurship, climate change and indigenous food sovereignty in food systems transformation, among others.
