Living memorial for Riky Rick opens on regenerative farm
On Saturday, 18 July and Sunday, 19 July, two well-loved South Africans, musician Riky Rick and Anton Chaka, will be memorialised in an unconventional way at Rustlers Valley regenerative farm in Naledi village in the eastern Free State.
Rather than unveiling a statue or plaque, the Riky Rick Foundation for the Promotion of Artivism, together with community partners, will launch a memorial forest in their honour, where trees will be planted as a living tribute to their lives and legacies.
For agriculture, the significance lies in the setting: a regenerative farm where ecological restoration, community healing and sustainable land stewardship come together, highlighting how working landscapes can play a role beyond food production.
