As 2025 draws to a close, the Food, Agriculture and Natural Resources Policy Analysis Network (FANRPAN) reflected on a year of remarkable progress – one defined by strategic milestones, stronger partnerships, and a renewed commitment to advancing inclusive and impactful policy processes across Africa.

One of the most defining moments of the year was the launch of the FANRPAN Strategy 2025–2035, which sets a bold and forward-looking roadmap for the next decade.

The organisation stated that the strategy reinforced their commitment to evidence-based policy engagement, food systems transformation, climate resilience, and inclusive development, while positioning FANRPAN to respond effectively to emerging regional and global challenges.

Engagement with the G20 processes

FANRPAN said it was proud to contribute to key G20 processes, including support to the Meeting of the Agricultural Chief Scientists (MACS) and active engagement with the G20 Agriculture Working Group. Through these platforms, FANRPAN helped advance discussions on agricultural innovation, food security, sustainable agriculture, and resilient food systems, while ensuring that African perspectives and priorities are reflected in global science–policy dialogues.

This engagement underscored FANRPAN’s growing role as a trusted convener and knowledge broker at the interface of regional and global agricultural policy processes.

Launch of the Youth in Agribusiness Fellowship

Recognising the critical role of young people in shaping future food systems, FANRPAN launched the Youth in Agribusiness Fellowship Programme. This initiative underscored their strong emphasis on youth empowerment, leadership development, and meaningful inclusion of young professionals in policy research, dialogue, and advocacy.

FANRPAN 2025 Annual Policy Dialogue

A key highlight of the year was the FANRPAN Annual Regional Policy Dialogue, held under the theme “Aligning Regional Policies and Investments for Accelerated Agrifood Systems Transformation in Africa.” The dialogue served as a critical platform for convening policymakers, researchers, development partners, civil society, private sector actors, and youth from across the region.

Discussions focused on strengthening policy coherence, mobilising and aligning investments, and translating evidence into action to accelerate the transformation of agrifood systems.

“Throughout the year, FANRPAN expanded its network through new and strengthened partnerships with regional, continental, and global institutions. These collaborations enhance our ability to convene, influence, and support policy processes, while leveraging diverse expertise and resources to drive sustainable agricultural and food systems development.

“As we look ahead to the new year, we are excited to build on these achievements and continue working closely with you to advance inclusive, resilient, and sustainable food systems across the region,” the organisation stated.

THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

With 21 global awards in the first six years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication. It is a movement, unashamedly saluting the unsung heroes of South African agriculture. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
