South African agriculture is getting a digital boost with the latest updates to the Farmers Friend app. This innovative tool, developed by IQ Logistica, is tackling a persistent challenge: data storage and access for farmers.

David Jeromin, director of business development at IQ Logistica, believes historical data is a secret weapon for successful farming. “The issue is that farmers often lack the tools to effectively store and utilise… valuable information.”

The new Farmers Friend update addresses this head-on, he explained. In this episode, Jeromin highlights one of the features that allows users to see what how much they have spent and what they have done on their farms, generating reports in PDF or Excel for further analysis.

Farm management on another level

The update goes beyond basic data management. “These features broaden the ecosystem for farmers and their partners. It streamlines information flow, giving farmers a better understanding of their operations and fostering more interaction.”

This translates to real-world benefits for farmers, Jeromin said. He added that they are addressing challenges like access to finance, products, and insurance.

The new features allow farmers to connect seamlessly with stakeholders in the agricultural industry, strengthening their position and giving them access to the information and support they need.

Recognising that not all farmers are tech-savvy, Farmers Friend has included a user-friendly tutorial guide within the app. “The guide explains things step-by-step. We even have videos to help users map their fields and access specific features.”

In this episode, Jeromin also discusses:
