As the year draws to an end, Beefmaster Group, one of South Africa’s largest family-run beef production companies situated in Kimberley and Christiana in the Northern Cape, has announced the opening of applications for its 2026 academic bursary programme.

According to the organisation, the initiative forms part of the company’s long-standing commitment to developing skilled, passionate young professionals who will help strengthen South Africa’s agricultural sector.

The bursary is open to final-year students pursuing BSc Agriculture (agricultural economics), BSc Agriculture (animal science), and B Agriculture (animal production).

Creating young leaders in the beef industry

Applicants must be South African citizens with strong academic performance. The bursary is open to students studying at any of South Africa’s accredited institutions. The closing date for applications is 30 December 2025.

Cindy Nkgoeng, HR manager at Beefmaster Group, said developing talent is not only a business imperative but a responsibility the company takes seriously.

“Agriculture remains one of the most important sectors for South Africa’s economic and social stability. Investing in young talent is essential if we want to build an industry that can meet future food security needs.

“At Beefmaster, we believe in creating pathways for capable young people to enter the sector with confidence, specialised skills, and a sense of purpose,” she said.

Nkgoeng adds that the Beefmaster bursary is more than just financial support for studies; it is a journey that equips young leaders with the mindset, skills, and networks to thrive.

“Our bursary programme is designed to support students who show potential to become the next generation of leaders, innovators, and problem-solvers in agriculture.”

The programme covers the full costs of tuition, accommodation, books and more for the 2026 academic year. It forms part of Beefmaster’s broader strategy to develop skilled talent for the agricultural sector.

“With rising pressure on South Africa’s food systems and a growing demand for specialised expertise, initiatives like this are essential. By supporting students at the final and most critical stage of their studies, Beefmaster aims to encourage long-term careers in agriculture and strengthen the industry’s overall competitiveness.

“Our business was built on strong family values and a commitment to community. Supporting education is one of the most powerful ways we can give back,” Nkgoeng said.
