Ghana’s burgeoning organic sector is seeking to build upon the existing export business. This means that producers of products such as dried fruits, chocolate, shea, cocoa, and natural cosmetics will be headed to the first Organics and Natural Products Expo Africa exhibition in Johannesburg.
South African organic product producers will also have the opportunity to exhibit at Wanderers Stadium between 21 and 23 October 2022.
According to the exhibition’s official website, some of the local products that consumers will be able to sample include halal products and food sponsored by the South African National Halaal Authority (SANHA), and from the Bryanston Organic Market, which is Johannesburg’s first organic outdoor market.
Ghana’s export promotion authority Dr Afua Asabea Asare will head up the Ghanaian National Pavilion during the exhibition.
“The prospects for Ghana’s exporters in this sector are riding high, subsequent to the Covid-19 pandemic. A healthy lifestyle and concern for the environment are now considered a must for a growing proportion of the current generation,” says Asare.
Ghana Dayon Saturday, which will take place on Saturday, 22 October, will be one of the attractions at the Ghana Pavilion. During a series of events honouring Ghana’s rich cultural heritage, including its strikingly colourful national dress worn by exhibitors, indigenous cuisine, and traditional highlife music, the country’s head of mission and his trade attaché will be guests of honour.
Meanwhile, several women entrepreneurs from Ghana are expected to participate in talks and presentations scheduled for the opening two days of the exhibition. Amongst them is likely to be Accra-based Elaine Stanley-Owusu of Mikaes Natural Skincare, who started her business after curing her daughter of a skin allergy using a homemade, traditional shea-based therapy.
