With less than two weeks remaining until the Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba, organisers have reported a surge in ticket sales and unveiled a captivating programme that promises to inspire and empower the next generation of agricultural leaders.
This Food For Mzansi event – hosted on Wednesday, 14 June, and Thursday, 15 June – will feature a line-up of over 40 distinguished speakers, engaging panel discussions, enlightening masterclasses, and a showcase of exhibitors.
Agriculture, land reform and rural development minister Thoko Didiza is set to open the indaba at the FNB Stadium in Soweto, Johannesburg. Organisers say the choice of location holds particular significance as the event falls on the eve of Youth Day, a day deeply ingrained in South Africa’s history.
One of the key highlights of the indaba is a panel discussion on commercialisation, shining a spotlight on the untold stories of Mzansi’s resilient black farmers and agripreneurs. The panel will feature renowned A-list farmers Ipeleng Kwadi, Hlobisile Yende, Gene Likhanya, and Dr Obakeng Mfikwe.
Attendees will have gain valuable insights from these agricultural trailblazers as they recount their personal journeys, share their triumphs, and discuss the remarkable potential they possess to shape the future of farming in the country.
The panel discussion on fast-tracking financing for new-era farmers furthermore promises to be a game-changer. Themba Rikhotso and Mankodi Moitse, respectively the CEO’s of Land Bank and Kagiso Trust, will be joined on stage by Kgampi Bapela, the head of agro-processing and agriculture at the IDC, and Nazeem Hendricks, who leads the project management unit at the Jobs Fund.
Together, these experts will provide invaluable advice, practical tips, and success stories to empower young farmers and agripreneurs and equip them with the tools needed to secure financial support and accelerate their agricultural ventures.
Three masterclasses per day
On the first day of the Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in three enlightening masterclasses that address key challenges and offer innovative solutions for the agricultural sector.

This, as Land Bank’s masterclass on blended finance will showcase innovative financing models to support inclusive and resilient agricultural development.
In addition to the panel discussions and masterclasses, attendees can look forward to exploring the exhibitor area, which will feature a diverse range of products, services, and cutting-edge technologies relevant to the agricultural sector.
