While the country prepares to usher in a new government following the 2024 national and provincial elections, the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC) has endorsed the former minister of agriculture, land reform and rural development in her new role as the speaker of parliament.
Angelo Petersen, chairperson of the NAMC, commended Didiza for her hard work as a former member of the executive in previous years, indicating her readiness for the task ahead.
“This prestigious role is a testament to your exceptional leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to the betterment of our nation. Your remarkable journey and contributions to the agricultural sector and beyond have been a source of inspiration to many,” he stated.
NAMC’s optimism for Didiza’s leadership in parliament
Petersen noted that the NAMC had witnessed Minister Didiza’s visionary leadership and steadfast commitment to advancing the interests of the agricultural community and broader South African society first-hand.
“As she assumes her new role, we are confident that her extensive experience, integrity, and passion for public service will greatly benefit the Parliament of South Africa and the country.
“We are certain that under your stewardship, the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa will continue to uphold the principles of democracy, inclusivity, and a progressive agenda,” he added.
Petersen expressed the NAMC’s anticipation of the positive impact of her leadership in this significant capacity and deeply appreciated her support and guidance over the years.

Didiza is no stranger to parliamentary leadership, having been elected as the house chairperson in the National Assembly in 2014, a position she held throughout the fifth administration.
Didiza faces legal repercussions over delayed land restitution compliance
Meanwhile, Daily Maverick reports that Didiza is facing possible imprisonment for failing to comply with a court order related to land restitution. The order demands that she returns land to the rightful claimants, a process which has been delayed despite multiple legal directives.
The court has expressed frustration with the prolonged inaction and emphasised that non-compliance could lead to severe consequences, including imprisonment for contempt of court.
The land in question involves the Mayibuye Community Trust, which has been entangled in corruption and mismanagement issues. Investigations revealed that the trust’s funds were misappropriated, and community members received no benefits from the land deals. The High Court has been involved to ensure that the rightful owners regain control and benefit from the land, but the process has been marred by delays and legal battles.
