Renowned legal scholar and author Tembeka Ngcukaitobi has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at the 2025 Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba. The event is set to take place on Tuesday, 1 April, and Wednesday, 2 April, at the Lavender Kontrei Market in Pretoria North.
Ngcukaitobi, widely respected for his work in constitutional law and land reform, will deliver his keynote address on Wednesday at 14:00. His talk will focus on the implications of the Expropriation Act, a topic of significant relevance to, amongst others, young black farmers navigating the complexities of land ownership and agricultural development in South Africa.
As the author of The land is ours: Black lawyers and the birth of Constitutionalism in South Africa, Ngcukaitobi has been a leading voice in legal and historical discourse on land rights. His insights are expected to provide critical perspectives on how the Expropriation Act influences land reform and the opportunities it presents for new-era farmers.
Food For Mzansi co-founder Ivor Price expressed his excitement about Ngcukaitobi’s participation, stating, “We are honoured to welcome Tembeka to this year’s indaba. With an impressive lineup of more than 50 speakers over two days and nearly 2 000 people already registered, this year’s event promises to be a groundbreaking platform for meaningful dialogue. Very limited tickets remain, and we encourage those interested to secure their spots as soon as possible.”
Now in its fourth year, the Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba is Food For Mzansi’s key annual gathering that brings together young and innovative minds in agriculture from across Africa. It provides a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and policy discussions.
Amongst the other A-list speakers count Gauteng’s MEC for agriculture and rural development, Vuyiswa Ramokgopa, and Aron Kole, managing director of FarmSol. Also confirmed are Karabo Mohale, executive deputy chairperson of the NYDA; Tshego Selepe, head of agribusiness at the Kgodiso Development Fund; Fhumulani Ratshitanga, Marthinus Stander, CEO of Rainbow Chicken Ltd, CEO of Fruit SA; and Dr Peter Evans, CEO of the South African Pork Producers’ Organisation.
Tickets for the two-day event are exclusively available on Quicket, including access to the official welcome function on Tuesday evening, which features dinner, a DJ until 23:00, and a cash bar.
