It’s the last week of September and there are a few important discussions on agriculture happening across the African continent. Set a reminder for Food For Mzansi’s weekly Twitter conversation with industry experts. On Tuesday the Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor 2022 takes place with intra-Africa trade talks at the centre of that event.
Wednesday takes us to Grain SA’s award ceremony, while Thursday offers a panel discussion on food insecurity, and finally, a livestock auction in Standerton, Mpumalanga on Friday.

Leverage data to improve intra-Africa food trade
Africa’s agricultural trade capacity and policy is increasingly important as global volatility in agriculture and fertiliser markets is increasing risks for many importing and exporting countries.
The 2022 edition of the Africa Agriculture Trade Monitor 2022 (AATM) under the theme: “Leveraging Data to Improve Intra-Africa Food Trade” will analyse short- and long-term trends and drivers of African agricultural trade flows, including regional policies and the role of global markets.
At this year’s event, speakers will review the latest report’s key findings and implications for next steps.

Grow grain for gold
Grain SA is gearing up to announce its latest winners in the “Grow for Gold” National Yield Competition.
The competition is a platform where grain producers can compete for the best yield per category, get closer to the genetic potential of the different grain crops, and learn from each other.
Grain producers compete in various categories, including dry and irrigated land. The competition is the only one of its kind and include the production of maize, wheat, sunflower and soybeans.

Food security in Africa
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Food and Agriculture Organization and African food and agriculture specialists will participate in a panel discussion exploring the myriad applications of nuclear in the ongoing fight against food insecurity.
