Calling all South African farmworkers. Do you have a hidden singing or rap talent? Then this year’s Agri’s Got Talent wants you to audition for the opportunity of a lifetime.
Agri’s Got Talent (AGT) has announced that entries for its 2024 season are now open, inviting you to showcase your talents and contributions to the agricultural sector. This competition is open to all South African farmworkers in the deciduous fruit, citrus, berry, and wine industries from across the country.
According to Thea van Zyl, Agri’s Got Talent offers participants an opportunity for personal and professional growth.
“The top ten finalists will embark on a transformative journey during a week of intensive training in the picturesque Western Cape. Alongside expert voice and social media coaching, finalists will receive glamorous makeovers and indulge in self-care packages,” she said.
The true essence of AGT lies in its self-development workshops led by accredited social workers. These sessions are meticulously designed to boost confidence, enhance self-worth, and equip participants with essential soft skills such as conflict resolution, time management, and financial literacy – tools that will serve them well in any future endeavour.
The top 10 contestants will perform on stage on 11 October 2024 before a panel of esteemed judges, competing for the title of Agri’s Got Talent 2024 winner.
How to enter
To enter, all you have to do is send voice recordings or videos via WhatsApp to 082 372 1577 or email to info@agrisgottalent.com. Songs can be performed in any genre or language, so whether you’re into pop, RnB, acoustic, rap, or classical, Agri’s Got Talent wants to hear it all.
Employers are also welcome to manage the entry process for their workers and are free to record all interested employees and email their information. Be quick about it because entries close on 31 July 2024.
When submitting your application, be sure to include the following information:
- Name & surname
- Date of birth
- Your own cellphone number
- Name of farm/cellar/packhouse
- Job description
- How long you have been working on the farm, in the packhouse or cellar
- Nearest town
- Supervisor’s name and cellphone number
Reasons to participate
Van Zyl said Agri’s Got Talent is more than just a singing competition. They aim to shine a spotlight on the immense talent within South Africa’s farming community while recognising the vital role agricultural workers play in driving the sector forward.
“Over the past decade, AGT has defied stereotypes, revealing the boundless creativity and skill of farmworkers.
“Top ten AGT participants contribute back to their communities, acting as role models and leaders through activities like starting music groups, training others, and performing locally,” Van Zyl said.
Previous seasons of the competition have brought together entire farming communities, fostering a sense of unity and pride as colleagues cheer on their peers, and this year promises to be bigger and better,
“The presence of [AGT participants] on farms boosts morale and productivity while fostering a sense of unity among workers. The visibility of the top ten contestants enhances the agricultural brand and showcases talent within the industry,” said Van Zyl.
In addition, the Agri’s Got Talent Top Ten serve as exceptional agricultural ambassadors, promoting the competition and industry wherever they go, Van Zyl added.
