Managing your farm just got easier. Explore the new features on Farmers Friend and take your farming business to the next level.

Farmers Friend, the popular agricultural management app, has been helping farmers manage their farms easily since its inception. However, the app has recently been updated with several new features that go beyond basic farm management to make farmers’ lives even easier.

With its existing built-in features, Farmers Friend has already been a valuable tool for farmers, simplifying various aspects of farm management. Now, the app boasts several updated features that transcend traditional farm management, further enhancing its utility for farmers.

The team at Farmers recently shared with Food For Mzansi the details of the app’s enhancements and their significant implications for farmers.

Enhanced features for streamlined farm management

According to their business development team, a standout feature of the latest iteration of Farmer’s Friend is the introduction of activity summarisation and reporting.

“The new features allow the user to summarise what they’ve spent and done on their farms and pull a report to refer to in several aspects of the agricultural business operation.”

With this new functionality, farmers can efficiently track their farm activities, monitor expenses, and generate detailed reports, providing valuable insights into their operations.

The company shared that it also equips farmers with comprehensive cost analysis and insights into individual land plots, empowering them to make well-informed decisions and optimise their operations for greater efficiency and profitability.

Greater agricultural network

Farmers Friend has also expanded its network.

The expanded network encompasses financiers, product suppliers, and insurance providers. In doing so, Farmers Friend is helping to create a supportive and collaborative agricultural ecosystem.

“The standout feature is the ecosystem that surrounds Farmers Friend. We’re allowing the farmer to have much greater access to a bigger network beyond their reach,” noted Wade Breytenbach, product manager for Farmers Friend.

These connections are essential for farmers to access financing, acquire necessary supplies, and protect their investments through insurance, ultimately contributing to the sustainability and success of their farming operations.

Addressing key challenges

According to Breytenbach, the latest updates to Farmers Friend directly tackle the significant challenges farmers face, particularly regarding access to finance, products, and insurance.

“Farmers Friend is trying to address access to finance, access to products, and access to insurance. By digitising your agricultural operation and mitigating management risk using the Farmers Friend application, it will open doors for finance and lending for you as a farmer.

“Farmers Friend also allows you to connect with many agricultural companies via the application, allowing you to share data with these enterprises as a farmer. The feature we are about to release, called Enterprise Connect, allows Farmers Friend farmers and Farmers Friend enterprise users to connect  seamlessly on the application,” Breytenbach explained.

Farmers Friend empowers farmers to access the resources and support they need to thrive in an ever-evolving agricultural landscape by facilitating seamless information flow and connection.

This access is essential for farmers to sustain and grow their operations, ultimately contributing to the overall success and sustainability of the agricultural sector.

User-centric design for a seamless experience

Recognising the challenges associated with technology adoption, Farmers Friend strongly emphasises user experience.

“We’ve implemented various features within the application to guide users, including tutorials and videos,” assured Breytenbach.

A comprehensive tutorial guide, easily accessible within the app and online, ensures a smooth onboarding process for farmers of all technological backgrounds. This commitment to inclusivity and accessibility reaffirms Farmers Friend’s dedication to user-centered design.

User feedback is integral to Farmers Friend’s evolution. Breytenbach noted, “We spend a lot of time with farmers to see how they do things, what works for them, and what doesn’t.”

This iterative feedback loop ensures that Farmers Friend’s features not only push the boundaries of innovation but also genuinely address farmers’ evolving needs and challenges worldwide.

By prioritising user experience and continually refining its features based on user feedback, Farmers Friend remains a valuable and indispensable tool for farmers in today’s rapidly changing agricultural landscape.

What to look forward to

Looking ahead, Farmers Friend is committed to empowering farmers with data-driven insights and a reliable digital support system.

“We want farmers to start understanding their data and what it means for their business,” stated Breytenbach.

By combining innovative features, a user-centric approach, and a commitment to sustainability, Farmers Friend is poised to make a significant and enduring impact on the agricultural landscape.
