KZN World Food Day event

If you happen to be near the eNyokeni Sports Arena in KwaZulu-Natal at 10:00 this morning, do join in on an event that touches on the efforts to rebuild and recover the economy for the sake of the poor and the hungry in the province.

The occasion will be graced by the presence of His Majesty, the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini and KwaZulu-Natal MEC for agriculture and rural development, Mrs Bongi Sithole-Moloi.

King Goodwill has called on all the inhabitants of the province to strengthen solidarity in the struggle against hunger, malnutrition and poverty. The theme for this event is “Our actions are our future. Healthy diets for a #ZeroHungerWorld”.

3

The struggle for equitable food systems

This afternoon academics and activists from the Institute of Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), the Centre of Excellence in Food Security (CoE-FS) and the C19 People’s Coalition Food Working Group will debate and share insights in a two-hour virtual discussion that will unpack how we can end hunger and ensure that everyone has a right to food.

The online dialogue will see panellists debate and share recent and ongoing research on the devastating impacts of covid-19. This includes increased levels of hunger around the world, massive disruptions to the food system and loss of incomes to buy food.

THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

With 11 global awards in the first three years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication. It is a movement, unashamedly saluting the unsung heroes of South African agriculture. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
