Maintaining herd health and productivity in shifting environmental conditions can be challenging for farmers. In this episode, Dr Josef van Wyngaard, technical manager at Voermol Feeds, discusses the specific products used by livestock farmer Ben Otukile, who trusts Voermol Feeds to address issues like poor body condition and unexpected illnesses.

Otukile’s diverse farming operation, located in Lichtenburg in North West, integrates crop farming with the breeding of Bonsmara cattle and red goats. Through careful selection of Voermol Feeds products, Otukile has created a tailored feeding strategy to ensure year-round health and growth for his animals.

With four specific products – Voermol Rumevite Cattle Block, Voermol Super 18, Voermol Ekonolick and Voermol Rumevite 12P – Otukile has witnessed promising results in his livestock herds. He strategically uses these products according to the needs of his animals and the season.

Benefits of specialised nutrition

“When it comes to Voermol Rumevite Cattle Block, this product is rain and wind-resistant. It is also very easy to move from one camp to another. This product focuses on maintenance for cattle and it helps them take off dry roughage,” says Van Wyngaard.

He describes Voermol Super 18 as a dual-purpose product that fits in every production cycle, for every breed and every species.

“It is not a complete feed but a supplement. It is registered as an energy, protein, mineral and trace mineral supplement, which is excellent,” he explains.

Through the guidance of Van Wyngaard and the tailored application of Voermol Feeds products, Otukile has developed a plan to prepare his animals for both harsh winters and the breeding season.

In this episode, Van Wyngaard also discusses:
  • The benefits of Voermol Ekonolick and Voermol Rumevite 12P
  • How the structure of the Voermol Feeds product line allows farmers to manage nutrition and performance, even amid seasonal variations in feed availability.
