Applications for the Gauteng IDC Nguni Cattle Development Trust are closing today, Wednesday, 30 June 2021 at 12:00. The trust is a development-oriented partnership of the Gauteng government, the Industrial Development Corporation and the University of Pretoria.
The primary objective of the trust is to re-introduce the Nguni breed into black farming communities in Gauteng, with the long-term objective of developing an international niche market for producing Nguni cattle products by these communities.
All individual farmers and farmer groups in Gauteng who meet the criteria are urged to apply for the Nguni cattle development project. Successful applicants will each receive 30 pregnant Nguni females and 1 Nguni bull as a conditional loan from the Trust.
What are the conditions?
One of the conditions is that the loan needs to be repaid within a period of five years by tendering a herd equivalent (in number and quality) to the initial herd received or through payment of a sum of money equivalent to the value of a similar herd as the date of the re payment to the Trust.
Farmers selected for participation from the applications received, shall enter into a loan agreement with the trust, which contract shall serve as an authentic legal record of rights and obligations between the Trust and cattle recipient.
