From a shared farming legacy with her father to taking charge after a heart-breaking personal loss, the story of #SoilSista Tiisetso Lebuso showcases unwavering commitment amidst daunting challenges.
Tiisetso Lebuso, a resilient #SoilSista from the Free State, embodies the essence of perseverance and determination in her agricultural endeavours. Her farming story began as a partnership with her father in 2008, embracing a mixed-breed farm including cattle, chickens, sheep, and crops. However, the sudden loss of her parents in 2021 led her to assume full responsibility for the farm’s operations.
“Since then until this present moment, I’ve been learning continuously to carry forward what I’ve inherited and strive for growth,” Lebuso shares, reflecting on her journey.
In her quest for expansion, Lebuso sought collaboration with organisations like the SerDev development programme, which contributed 35 cows to her farm. Additionally, exploring partnerships aimed at enhancing crop cultivation underscored her commitment to continuous improvement.
Learning to roll with the punches
However, she candidly admitted facing daunting challenges, primarily centred around financial limitations. “I’m facing a lot of challenges due to capital. I lack the necessary funds to implement necessary changes and fulfil my business plans,” Lebuso expresses with a sense of concern.
The absence of adequate resources, especially in water reticulation and fencing, has become a significant hurdle in reaching the farm’s full potential. Despite her relentless efforts to seek assistance from various departments, she continues to grapple with these limitations.
“Networking is very important in the farming industry,” Lebuso emphasises, recognising the value of connections and shared knowledge. She stresses the significance of social media as a platform to showcase one’s farm, believing that visibility opens doors to unexplored opportunities.
Amidst these challenges, this proud #SoilSista remains undeterred, showcasing an unwavering determination to overcome obstacles and cultivate growth on her farm. Her story epitomises the resilience of female farmers, navigating adversity with an unwavering spirit and unwavering commitment to success.
Despite the challenges, Lebuso’s journey reflects a relentless pursuit of growth and improvement, resonating as an inspiration to others in the agricultural sector.
