CEO and founder of Farmers Choice, Andile Matukane joins us on this week’s video episode of Farmer’s Inside Track. Fondly known as “the Spinach Lady” Matukane tells her farming story about navigating life as a black female, farming in a predominantly male-dominated industry and the hard lessons learnt along the way.
“It opens a lot of doors; currently everyone is looking at working with a young black female and inspiring a young black female to fulfil her dreams.”
Although she has manged to make great strides through her business, Farmers Choice, Matukane says rising to the top is no easy feat. “Although you may have gained theoretical knowledge, bear in mind that there are many learning curves you have not read about in a textbook.”
Matukane also shares her insights on how she managed to build a name for herself at the ripe age of 25 and advises established farmers to take a chance on training the youth. She believes “in order for us to grow the agricultural economy we need one another and they (established farmers) have got so much knowledge that the young ones don’t have. They need to share that knowledge in order for us to become successful”.
