Gauteng farmer Hlobisile Yende shares her success story attributed to Voermol Maxiwol Concentrate, highlighting its role in improving the health and productivity of her small stock during the challenging winter months.
In the world of goat and sheep farming, nutrition plays a vital role in the animals’ overall well-being and productivity. During winter months, Yende often struggles with her goats and sheep losing body weight. To mitigate this, she provides her animals with Voermol Maxiwol Concentrate, which is a protein, mineral and trace mineral concentrate for small stock, which must be fed mixed.
“On our farm, Voermol is one of the main products that we use,” she shares proudly. “With our goats and sheep, we especially focus on Voermol products because they make a difference and are value for money. These products are aligned with the goals that we want to achieve on the farm.”
Providing essential nutrients
Voermol Maxiwol Concentrate is a high-quality lick concentrate used for the home mixing of licks. It is specially formulated to promote wool and fibre growth and to stimulate udder, colostrum and milk production in sheep and goats.
“What I love about Maxiwol is that you can use it all year round. But we increase the intake in winter because this also helps with our ewes towards lactating and it helps with the production of wool,” Yende explains.

Because winter forage tends to have lower nutritional content compared to fresh spring and summer growth, it often means that her animals have access to fewer essential nutrients, leading to weight loss. Luckily, Voermol Maxiwol Concentrate provides a high level of bypass protein, which significantly increases the performance of producing animals.
“Using Maxiwol helps a lot. It acts as a protein lick for us in winter. Hence, we increase the intake in winter because in winter we get protein licks, and in summer we get phosphates,” Yende says. “We get a 50kg [bag] and in summer we usually feed one bag per week but in winter we use two bags per week.”
Improved body weight
It is important to note that the concentrated nutrition in lick supplements can support faster growth rates in lambs and kids, leading to increased body weight and faster development.
