With just a few days to go, the highly anticipated 2025 Mzansi Young Farmers’ Indaba is set to deliver top-tier masterclass sessions to equip young farmers with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in the agricultural sector.
Over two action-packed days, industry experts will share cutting-edge insights on topics ranging from climate-smart farming to mechanisation, trade expansion, financial management, and livestock health.
Here’s a closer look at the must-attend masterclass sessions on Tuesday, 1 and Wednesday, 2 April, at Lavender Kontrei Market in Pretoria North.
Day 1: Breakout sessions to elevate your farming game
Unpredictable weather is reshaping agriculture, making climate-smart solutions essential. On the main stage, Mila Toth, a TerraClim data scientist, will explore how technology and precision climate data help farmers adapt, build resilience, and protect crops.
In breakaway room 1, John Deere experts Sibongiseni Ngqukumba and Vikar Sheopershad will showcase the latest precision agriculture, from advanced machinery to data-driven decision-making for greater efficiency.
The session in breakaway room 2 focuses on export readiness, with Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB) specialists Maikutlo Matubatuba and Keotshepile Mokgothu guiding farmers on market access, trade regulations, and expanding beyond South Africa’s borders.
Food For Mzansi assistant editor Duncan Masiwa says they are excited to bring together industry leaders, innovators, and passionate young farmers under one roof.

Day 2: Mastering farm finances and animal health
The second day of the indaba kicks off with farm finance essentials on the main stage. Tebogo Mokgoadi (investment manager at Masisizane) and Sifiso Khumalo (marketing and commercial manager: SMEgo at Old Mutual) will cover funding, cash flow management, strategic investments, and loan applications. This is set to help farmers secure long-term financial success.
In breakaway room 1, Afrivet’s Kenneth Malatji and Ishmael Digame will lead a masterclass on primary animal healthcare. Farmers will gain practical insights on disease prevention, vaccinations, parasite control, and early detection that are key to reducing livestock losses and boosting productivity.
In breakaway room 2, Linda Siboto (director and co-founder of Cheeba Africa) will speak about the opportunities and realities of cannabis growing in South Africa. With South Africa’s evolving cannabis laws, many see indoor cultivation as an easy win. But the reality is more complex. This session unpacks the licensing framework, investment potential, and key challenges in medicinal cannabis farming – giving you the insights to thrive in this emerging sector.

These industry leaders will showcase innovative solutions, resources, and opportunities to support young farmers in building sustainable and profitable agribusinesses.
