High schools in and around Pietermaritzburg and Jeffreys Bay can now register for the upcoming AgriCareers roadshow exhibitions. This nationwide project, presented by Food For Mzansi, introduces grade 9 to 12 learners to study and career opportunities in South Africa’s dynamic agriculture sector.
The AgriCareers roadshow is set to attract a further 20 000 learners in 2023, with nearly 7 000 learners already registered to attend the Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and Gauteng legs of the roadshow this coming week.
“By exposing young people to the endless possibilities in agriculture, we are not just changing their lives, we are transforming the face of farming and securing the future of our nation,” says Kobus Louwrens, Food For Mzansi co-founder, on the life-changing impact of the AgriCareers roadshow in South Africa.

On Monday, 20 February the programme is set to kick off at the Kgapane Community Hall in Modjadjiskloof, outside Tzaneen in Limpopo. This event is hosted by the Mandela Barloworld Agricultural High School. Two days later, the Mpumalanga leg will be hosted at Morgenzon Landbou Akademie, with Bekker High School in Magaliesburg, Gauteng, following on Friday, 24 February.
This year’s programme will reach several other locations across the country, including Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, 6 March 2023 and Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday, 8 March 2023. It then moves to Upington in the Northern Cape, Clanwilliam in the Western Cape, Bothaville in the Free State, and Brits in North West.
Meet young agri professionals
The AgriCareers roadshow, now in its fourth year, has already reached over 50 000 learners since its inception. The programme aims to introduce learners to a range of study and career opportunities within the agricultural sector.
Exhibitors include universities, colleges, and other educational institutions, including the Stellenbosch University, University of Venda, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Agricolleges INTERNATIONAL, AgriSkills Transfer, Cedara College, and many more.
Participating learners will have the opportunity to engage with young professionals from different companies who will share more about their careers and study choices, including scientists, veterinarians, accountants, journalists, and marketers. Among others, Bayer, the South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers, Andermatt Madumbi, and the Kagiso Trust are in attendance.
