Somerset West’s historic Vergelegen Estate has been named the best wine farm experience in the 2025 Best of the Cape Awards, hosted by Cape radio station Kfm 94.5 in partnership with Yoco.
The annual competition, which is both public-nominated and voted, celebrates the Western Cape’s most beloved places and experiences. The best wine farm experience category honours destinations that combine outstanding wines with exceptional visitor experiences, and Vergelegen’s blend of heritage, fine wines, and hospitality proved to be the winning formula.
‘We’re on top of the world’
Vergelegen managing director Wayne Coetzer said, “We’re on top of the world at this news, especially as it comes directly from the public. Winning this award means so much for the estate ‒ it is an external endorsement that we are fully on track. There is no one better than our customers to tell us how we are doing.
“Without a doubt, what differentiates Vergelegen is our people. This award is a feather in the cap of every staff member, each of whom understands service and hospitality.”
Coetzer added that Vergelegen aims to ensure that every guest enjoys an unforgettable experience, and the award reflects the dedication and passion of the entire team.

Best of the Cape Awards
The Best of the Cape Awards are among the Western Cape’s most popular lifestyle accolades, drawing thousands of nominations across 30 categories. Winners were announced live on Kfm on 15 August, after a voting period that ran from 30 July to 7 August.
According to senior consultant Judy Bryant, visitors to Vergelegen are spoiled for choice, with activities ranging from guided garden, heritage and cellar tours, to picnics under the camphor trees and exploring the estate’s nature reserve in a game drive vehicle.
The award not only recognises the estate’s commitment to excellence but also strengthens Vergelegen’s standing as a must-visit destination for wine lovers, history enthusiasts, and nature seekers alike.
