Agri X, in partnership with the North-West University (NWU), will host the Agri X Fusion Red Meat Value Chain event on 4–5 March 2026 at the NWU Mahikeng Campus.

This first-of-its-kind initiative brings together industry leaders, producers, researchers, feedlots, processors and policymakers to collectively address the most critical challenges shaping South Africa’s red meat value chain.

Gerhard Diedericks, director of Agri X, said the two-day programme covers genetics, feeding, biosecurity, market access, climate resilience, and value-chain competitiveness, with structured matchmaking sessions to support direct collaboration between industry, key stakeholders, and academia.

Gathering of great agricultural minds

Frikkie Mare, CEO of the Red Meat Producers Organisation (RPO), emphasised the importance of establishing a two-way platform that connects the industry and researchers.

“Producers need practical, research-based insights that address on-farm realities, but it is equally important that researchers have a platform to showcase the work already done, explain how it can benefit the sector, and help producers apply it effectively. Agri X Fusion 2026 offers exactly this opportunity: a space where research and practice can meet and influence one another,” Mare said.

Agri X Fusion 2026 is designed to ensure that research investment, innovation priorities and skills development efforts are directly informed by the needs of producers, processors and value-chain partners.

The first day features presentations, panel discussions, and networking opportunities, offering practical insights and takeaways for producers, processors, and exporters.

Networking opportunities

Day two is reserved for pre-booked one-on-one meetings, giving participants focused time to engage directly with industry leaders, researchers, and potential business partners, to build collaboration and strategic partnerships.

According to the organisers, this approach ensures that insights gained on the first day translate into actionable partnerships and tangible next steps.

All industry role players are invited to attend or sponsor the event to strengthen visibility, secure networking opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to shaping the sector’s direction. Industry bodies and companies are also invited to participate as partners in the event to ensure visibility, relevance, and contribution to shaping the sector’s direction.

THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

With 21 global awards in the first six years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication. It is a movement, unashamedly saluting the unsung heroes of South African agriculture. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
