The North West department of agriculture and rural development recently signed a memorandum of agreement (MoA) with Land Bank to strengthen agricultural development and expand support for emerging and commercial farmers across the province.
According to the department, the partnership seeks to unlock funding opportunities, improve access to agricultural resources, and promote sustainable farming initiatives that will contribute to food security, economic growth, and rural development across North West.
The MEC of agriculture and rural development in North West, Madoda Sambatha, welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a strategic intervention that will empower farmers, boost agricultural productivity, and create opportunities for inclusive participation in the agricultural value chain.
“This partnership highlights the importance of collaboration between financial institutions, the private sector, and government in driving meaningful agricultural transformation.

“Through coordinated support and investment, we can strengthen farmer development, improve production capacity, and ensure long-term sustainability within the sector,” Sambatha said.
The MEC emphasised that Land Bank plays a vital role in supporting developing farmers by providing accessible financing, agricultural loans, and mentorship opportunities.
The department said the agreement further highlights the bank’s commitment to supporting agricultural enterprises, promoting agro-processing, and encouraging value-addition initiatives that will enhance the competitiveness of the province’s agricultural sector.
It reiterated its commitment to working closely with stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of development programmes and to provide farmers with the necessary support to build sustainable and productive farming operations.
“The signing of the MOU marks a significant milestone in advancing agricultural development, contributing to economic empowerment and improved livelihoods for farming across the province,” Sambatha stated.
