Excitement is mounting as wine enthusiasts and industry leaders anticipate the gathering at the historic estate of Groot Constantia on Thursday, 1 February 2024, for the Wine Harvest Commemorative Event.
This celebration marks the commencement of the South African wine season, inviting attendees to not only seek blessings for the new harvest but also pay homage to industry visionaries through the prestigious 1659 Award for Visionary Leadership.
The 1659 Award, named after the year when wine was first produced from Cape grapes, is a coveted accolade recognising individuals who have made significant contributions to the success of the South African wine industry.
An honour to be recognised
Last year’s recipient, Ken Forrester, also known as Mr Chenin, expressed the honour, stating, “This is a truly humbling experience to be recognised by one’s peers in an industry that thrives on passion and creativity.”

Celebrating SA’s wine heritage
February will see various events celebrating Mzansi’s rich wine heritage, as Wrenelle Stander, CEO of Wesgro, highlighted, “The Western Cape is a world-renowned wine region and a top pick for consumers, known for its diverse terroirs and twenty established wine routes.”
