Happy February, farmers! Today we get to celebrate a grape varietal. Plus, it is the last day to enter for this year’s SA Dairy Championships. Monday nights, of course, are also TV nights for farmers.

1

Episode 3 of farmers’ TV show

In tonight’s episode of Vir die liefde van die land, our favourite farmers’ television show, viewers get to meet Wessel Bibbey. He actively works to boost the next generation of black farmers through his innovative land reform project.

The ten-episode series, hosted by Ivor Price and farmer mentor Piet Potgieter, is proudly presented by VKB in partnership with Food For Mzansi and WYRD Films. Catch tonight’s episode at 18:30 on VIA, DStv channel 147.

2Final call: SA Dairy Championships

Today is the last day to sign up for the SA Dairy Championships hosted by Agri-Expo. Enter your dairy products to compete for the titles of SA Champion, the Qualité mark of excellence and the Product of the Year, awarded at the South African Dairy Awards.

Any dairy producer with products available in the trade may enter. Online entries for the 2021 SA Dairy Championships can be done on the website.  Judging takes place on Thursday, 25 February and the SA Dairy Awards will be presented on Friday, 26 March at the Endler Hall in Stellenbosch in the Western Cape.

Contact Agri-Expo on 021 975 4440 or email cheese@agriexpo.co.za.

3

International Furmint Day

No, that’s not a spelling mistake. Furmint is an exciting grape variety. Although it is not that widely known in South Africa, it certainly deserves more attention. Therefore, 1 February has been dedicated to celebrating this important Hungarian grape that has seen limited plantings in Mzansi.

Check out the Facebook page for all manners of Furmint experiences.

THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

With 21 global awards in the first six years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication. It is a movement, unashamedly saluting the unsung heroes of South African agriculture. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
