This is your last chance to register for the International Women’s Day webinar held on Monday. The event, hosted by Corteva Agriscience and the GIBS Business School, will focus on women’s key role in agriculture.

The International Women’s Day webinar will be live-streamed on Food For Mzansi. Participants will deliberate on policy and practice perspectives that will construct an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs in agriculture.

Thoko Didiza, the minister of agriculture, land reform and rural development, will deliver the keynote address titled “Building an enabling environment for women entrepreneurs in agriculture: policy and practice perspectives.”

Top panellists confirmed

Some of the nation’s leading agricultural voices have also been confirmed as webinar panellists.

This includes, among others, Mbali Nwoko, CEO of Green Terrace Farm, Agbiz chief economist Wandile Sihlobo, regional president of Corteva Agriscience in Africa and the Middle East Venkata Subbarao Kolli and Miranda Hosking, executive director of social education at GIBS.

The interactive round-table debate will be facilitated by Dr Michele Ruiters from the GIBS faculty specialising in women leadership and development finance.

Women reportedly make up about 60% to 80% of smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa. Yet, they only make up about 15% to 20% of landholders.

Sihlobo believes that addressing gender disparities in the agricultural sector is a prerequisite to increasing women and youth participation in the sector while creating much-needed employment opportunities and ensuring food security.

THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

With 21 global awards in the first six years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication. It is a movement, unashamedly saluting the unsung heroes of South African agriculture. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
