Casidra has marked a significant milestone by securing its 35th consecutive unqualified audit for the 2023/24 financial year. The prominent development agency, which specialises in rural development and agricultural support, plays a pivotal role in enhancing the lives of Western Cape residents through impactful projects and strategic partnerships.
Dr Ivan Meyer, minister of agriculture, economic development and tourism for the Western Cape, highlighted Casidra’s remarkable achievement during its annual general meeting in Paarl this week.
Meyer lauded Casidra’s commitment to exemplary governance and community development. “Casidra’s consistent demonstration of financial integrity and governance excellence is a testament to its dedication to the Western Cape Government and rural advancement,” he stated.
The chairperson of Casidra’s audit and risk committee, Crystal Abdoll, presented the annual financial statements for the 2023/24 financial year, emphasising the agency’s role in improving the lives of Western Cape residents and its contribution to poverty alleviation.
Despite rising sector costs, Casidra realised a surplus of R1.8 million for the year ended 31 March 2024. The company implemented cost-containment measures, motivated staff, and focused on growing alternative income streams.
“I commend the board, management, and staff for achieving an excellent audit outcome, solid financial results, and making a sustainable impact on the communities we serve,” Abdoll concluded.
Advancing agricultural and economic development
Christo van der Rheede, chairperson of the board, expressed his gratitude to the shareholder, represented by Meyer.
“Our strategic partnership with the Western Cape department of agriculture has enhanced reporting, efficiency, and procurement, amplifying our impact within the province. Casidra will continue to play a significant role as its leading implementing partner and align with new ministerial priorities: agricultural support; business support; food security and nutrition; and market access,” stated Van der Rheede.
Meyer also praised board members for their dedication to enhancing agricultural and economic opportunities in rural communities, significantly contributing to the agricultural sector’s growth in the Western Cape.
Dr Keith du Plessis, CEO of Casidra, highlighted the organisation’s accomplishment in rolling out approximately 10 000 food security projects across the province with limited resources, noting that achieving an unqualified audit is a notable bonus.
He extended his gratitude to Meyer and the provincial head of agriculture, Dr Mogale Sebopetsa, for their belief in Casidra’s efforts to make a difference through effective and efficient project delivery. He also thanked the board of directors, management, and staff for their collective efforts and ongoing support in fulfilling their mandate.
