Farmers from Lesotho are once again gearing up to attend the 2026 Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba, joining their peers from across Southern Africa for two days of learning, networking, and inspiration.

With the support of Seahlolo newspaper, Newsday Media, and local agricultural partners, these farmers will have the chance to connect with industry leaders, share experiences, and explore opportunities to grow their farms and businesses.

From the highlands of Lesotho to the heart of Pretoria East, these farmers are bringing energy, ideas, and ambition to the continent’s premier youth-agriculture gathering. Now in its fifth year, the indaba has become much more than a conference. It is a meeting point for Africa’s next generation of agricultural leaders, where conversations turn into partnerships, and knowledge turns into action

Insights from various countries

“This is the room where farmers of all ages meet, exchange ideas, and discover opportunities that can transform their farms and communities.

“Last year, we welcomed attendees from 12 different countries, and the Lesotho farmers always bring great insights and energy,” says Ivor Price, managing director of the Food For Mzansi Group. “This is the room where farmers of all ages meet, exchange ideas, and discover opportunities that can transform their farms and communities.”

Exciting developments for the Farmers Pitso Awards

In another exciting development, the Farmers Pitso Awards – Lesotho’s national platform for celebrating agricultural excellence – enters a bold new chapter. The awards will now be managed by Newsday Media in partnership with Seahlolo newspaper under a three-year agreement.

This follows discussions with the founding team, who had considered suspending the 2026 edition. Recognising the awards’ importance as a national platform for celebrating farmers, Seahlolo stepped in to ensure continuity, growth, and sustainability.

“We are honoured to be entrusted with the Farmers Pitso Awards. Celebrating farmers is not just symbolic; it is strategic for national development. Together with the founders and the agricultural community, we will take this platform to greater heights and ensure it becomes a sustainable national platform of excellence,” says Leratho Matheka, managing editor of Newsday Media.

Farmers Pitso Awards co-founder Thabiso Mats’oele added: “Passing the awards to Seahlolo is a strategic step to ensure the event grows beyond its founders and serves farmers for generations to come. We are confident that their leadership will strengthen the awards and expand their impact. I will continue to support them in an advisory role to ensure the legacy grows.”

The transition ensures the Farmers Pitso Awards remain a platform that celebrates innovation, excellence, and the future of agriculture in Lesotho, inspiring farmers, attracting investment, and elevating the sector on a national stage.
