In this episode, team Farmer’s Inside Track gets up close and personal with Free State livestock farmer Kgomotsho Ranchu.

Ranchu has always had a love for agriculture, specifically agricultural development. He shares more about his passions and valuable tips for newcomers venturing into this dynamic sector.

“I am currently farming with grains, maize and sunflower, and I currently lease a 100-hectare farm,” he explains in the episode.

On top of this, he provides an agricultural service to farmers. “It is a service provider that provides business planning in agriculture as a whole.”

Holistic approach and land

While many would believe agriculture is all on the ground, Ranchu takes the listeners on a journey on how he has navigated his world with a holistic point of view, and he shares his reasons.

“We are farming against climate and [for] mother nature, so everything that we do, we have to prepare ourselves,” he says.

One of his tips to farmers is to always have a plan in place when approaching a farmer if you want to lease their land.

Ranchu has big dreams for the next five years and shares some of them in the episode.

In this episode, Ranchu also discusses:

  • Choosing partners in agriculture;
  • Agricultural finance; and
  • Tips to young farmers.
