The Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba gears up to become a hub of innovation, with top experts urging young farmers and agripreneurs to embrace technology as the key to success. From exhibitions showcasing cutting-edge agritech to inspiring talks, the event promises to equip attendees with the tools they need to thrive in a modern agricultural landscape.
Farmers Friend, a sought-after app facilitating comprehensive farm management, is among the 50 exhibitors at the indaba.
Offering features like tracking daily farming activity and providing weather insights, attendees can expect a comprehensive overview of the latest advancements in agricultural technology.
Staying on top of tech advances
According to Michelle Lesur, CEO of Andermatt Madumbi, the pace of innovation in agriculture is accelerating, and future-focused farmers need to be thinking out of the box when it comes to sustainable farming practices.
“In 2024, I believe farmers should be investigating how they can apply new biotechnology, such as biological solutions, in their farming practices to support stronger, robust crops, better yields, and quality produce for local market access,” she said.
Andermatt Madumbi, recognised for pioneering biological solutions transforming agriculture and food, is set to showcase their innovations at the upcoming indaba. The event is scheduled from Thursday, 4 to Saturday, 6 April at Lavender Kontrei Mark in Pretoria North.
The conference, boasting a stellar line-up, will span the first two days. The third day, Saturday, is reserved for business management classes, practical demonstrations, and public access to the Mzansi Young Farmers Indaba exhibition area.
A new ‘toolbox’ for farmers
Lesur said by embracing change, young farmers have opportunities to leapfrog the traditional and lead the industry with quality produce, reaping the benefits of a healthy return on their farming investments. “I believe our young farmers have the energy and motivation to lead agriculture in our country into a new era of successful and sustainable entrepreneurships.”
She describes the annual Food For Mzansi event as the perfect platform for young farmers to learn, build confidence and embrace change.
“I am looking forward to seeing a close collaboration between science, commerce, and agronomy so we can equip young farmers with a new ‘toolbox’ for future-focused practices and successful farming enterprises.”
Meanwhile, Leona Archary, CEO of the Agricultural Development Agency (Agda), emphasised the critical importance for young farmers to stay abreast of emerging technologies and innovations that enhance efficiency.
“They should also prioritise green technology and its environmental impact,” she said.
“The indaba has become a valuable platform for networking and accessing information. Success stories shared at the event serve as strong motivators and I am excited for this year’s event.”
Agda, committed to supporting and promoting farmers’ interests, will also feature prominently at the indaba.
With a focus on assisting new-era farmers, the organisation aims to break down barriers to commercialisation, addressing the challenges of limited capacity and access to affordable capital.
