Sulaimaan Patel: I feel incredibly honoured and grateful to have won the award. It is a validation of the hard work and dedication I have put into my developmental work for emerging farmers. Winning this award has filled me with a sense of accomplishment and motivation to continue positively impacting the agricultural sector.
What does it mean for you as a person and your career?
This holds great significance for me personally and professionally. It is a milestone in my career that recognises my expertise and contributions to the agricultural industry. It will boost my credibility and open doors for further opportunities such as collaborations, partnerships, and funding.

I have witnessed firsthand the positive changes in their lives and the communities they serve. I have contributed to increased productivity, improved sustainability, and fostered socio-economic development in the agricultural sector through sustainable and innovative approaches.
Why is being a positive changemaker and contributor to SA agriculture so important to you?
Being a changemaker in the agricultural sector is crucial to me because I deeply care about the well-being of farmers, rural communities, and the environment.
Agriculture is the backbone of our society, and by bringing positive change, we can address issues like food security, poverty alleviation, and environmental sustainability.
Making a lasting impact means leaving a legacy of progress and empowering future generations. It is my way of contributing to a more resilient and equitable agricultural sector.
You’ve seen firsthand how farmers are over some of their toughest challenges, but what’s your approach?
I overcome challenges by adopting a multifaceted approach. Firstly, I maintain a positive mindset, viewing challenges as opportunities for growth and learning.
Secondly, I seek knowledge and expertise from various sources, including industry experts, research, and networking. This allows me to gather insights and find innovative solutions.
Thirdly, I build a strong support network comprising like-minded individuals, mentors, and organisations. They provide guidance, encouragement, and practical assistance when facing challenges.
Lastly, I embrace adaptability and innovation, constantly exploring new ideas, technologies, and approaches. I can overcome obstacles and navigate complex situations more effectively by staying flexible and open-minded.
