Free State shoppers came from far and wide for the official opening of the VKB Group’s brand-new flagship store in Harrismith yesterday.

Boasting a brand-new look, the store not only leaves shoppers spoilt for choice with all their agricultural and grocery needs, it also features a VKB Foods outlet. Most of the products sold, along with leading brands, are produced or manufactured by the VKB Group.

Following the opening ceremony, which was attended by many high-profile VKB employees, the first 100 shoppers were spoilt with a free gift. Furthermore, the day was filled with awe-inspiring supplier exhibitions, lucky draws and a live broadcast by OFM.

“Our strategy is to add value where we are involved, especially on the farms, but also in the communities where we do business. That is why we want to give people a pleasant and safe shopping experience, and I believe (our stores) will offer people what they are looking for.”

8 great reasons to shop

  • VKB’s Harrismith retail branch can be found at 10 Piet Retief Street. Spanning over 4000 square metres, the new store promises to meet all of your agricultural and grocery needs.
  • The VKB group has more than 50 stores across the country, with the first retail entity having opened more than 100 years ago.
  • The new Harrismith store combines decades of retail experience with a modern and dynamic outlook. Customers who are familiar with VKB stores can still expect the usual products on offer, like fertilizers, seeds, chemicals, animal nutrition, animal health, fencing and fuel.
  • Customers can look forward to high quality food products, as the new store has a complete VKB Food outlet in the building.
  • VKB stores have always centred their services and products on keeping producers sustainable and profitable, and the new Harrismith store is no exception. The store balances agricultural effectiveness with an ease of access that a general consumer can also navigate.
  • Customers can expect recognised, quality brands at competitive prices, as well as lower priced alternative options that are supported by a generous guarantee policy.
  • Highly trained staff are available to answer all questions and products are arranged according to department, so customers won’t truggle to find what they’re looking for.
  • Some of the nation’s favourite consumer brands are also available at the Harrismith store, including products by Grain Field Chickens, Magnifisan and Super-Sure. The Magnifisan product, amongst others under this brand, is Super Maize Meal which is produced by VKB Milling. The Super-Sure products, including bread, a confectionery range and flour, are produced by VKB Flour Mills.

THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

With 15 global awards in the first four years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication. It is a movement, unashamedly saluting the unsung heroes of South African agriculture. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
