The Minister of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, Ms. Thoko Didiza, MP has taken the decision to suspend all movement of cattle in the whole country. The Ministers decision is aimed at halting the continued spread of Foot and Mouth Disease in the country. This morning you can join the virtual memorial service for Professor Mohammad Karaan. Many dignitaries, including former finance minister Trevor Manuel, will pay tribute to the late agricultural icon.

Other events in Mzansi today include the first monthly broadcast by the Produce Marketing Association, showcasing the best fresh produce that South Africa has to offer. Also, the Partners in Agri Land Solutions (PALS) movement today gives birth to the Maluti Farming PALS in the Free State.

Lala kahle, Prof. Karaan 

A virtual memorial service, hosted by Stellenbosch University, kicks off at 10:00 to honour the life and legacy of agricultural pioneer and academic Professor Mohammad Karaan. Selected speakers will pay their last respects during the Zoom session, whereafter other contributions will be welcomed.

2Southern Africa Beanstalk Global broadcast 

The  Produce Marketing Association commences its monthly broadcasts in partnership with Beanstalk Global  to showcase the South African fresh produce industry to a global trade and consumer audience.  In today’s broadcast, they will cover the dynamics of the fresh produce industry and its important role in the country.

Maluti Farming PALS launch 

Maluti Farming PALS is a partnership between new era and commercial farmers providing national momentum to the existing Partners in Agri Land Solutions framework. The Maluti Farming PALS, based in the eastern Free State, launches today.

The keynote speaker is Thoko Didiza, the minister of agriculture, land reform and rural development, while Christo van der Rheede, chief executive of Agri SA, will also address the audience.
