In a move to bolster its distribution capabilities, Chemuniqué, a leading provider of animal nutritional solutions in South Africa, has inaugurated a cutting-edge warehouse facility near Malibongwe Drive in Randburg, Johannesburg.
This 3,000m² warehouse is set to enhance the company’s ability to efficiently distribute its products nationwide, in collaboration with its logistics empowerment partner, Neuro Logistics.
The launch of the facility marks a strategic consolidation of Chemuniqué’s operations, which previously relied on five separate warehouses across the country. This centralisation is expected to provide the company with greater control over stock management and quality assurance, a crucial aspect of their commitment to delivering high-quality animal nutrition products.
“Chemuniqué was founded with a vision of delivering the latest cutting-edge nutritional technologies to improve efficiencies and reduce the cost of locally produced animal protein,” said Terry Wiggill, managing director of Chemuniqué.
“Our passion for agriculture and efficient food production drives us to continuously innovate. To support these goals, we realised that we needed to rethink our distribution model.”
Wiggill emphasised the importance of maintaining control over all business activities to ensure cost-effectiveness.
“When you are dependent on others, things become expensive. With this in mind, we went back to the drawing board to find better and more efficient ways of doing business. Our mission remains clear: to empower feed and food producers with the most innovative animal performance solutions, enabling them to consistently advance the efficiency of food production.”
Advanced stock management and real-time tracking
The new warehouse is strategically located along Gauteng’s main highway artery, the N14, providing easy access to all major regions of the country.
Designed to provide optimal conditions for high-value products, the facility is capable of handling between 25 and 35 containers filled with products and can distribute more than 900 000kg of stock monthly.
Swasti Maharaj, the warehouse manager, highlighted the facility’s role in supporting Chemuniqué’s customer satisfaction goals.
“Efficient stock holding and distribution form one of the cornerstones of our business. The logistics and supply chain challenges experienced in the country over the past few years necessitated that we rethink our approach,” she explained.
The warehouse is equipped with a sophisticated, in-house developed electronic and cloud-based stock management system called WP Racks. This system allows for real-time stock updates, easy product tracking, and simplified order processing, all of which contribute to smoother warehouse operations.
Each stock-keeping unit (SKU) is assigned a QR code and a dedicated space on the shelves upon arrival, enabling precise stock control and reducing losses.
“Increased effectiveness in our operations means we can manage costs more efficiently and provide better service to our customers,” Maharaj noted. “The entire process is now more streamlined, and we are better equipped to meet the demands of the market.”
