The top performing matriculants of 21 schools of the Ditsobotla sub-district were honoured at a prestigious event hosted by North West’s department of education where they also received a brand-new laptop, furnished with the latest software, from NWK.
The sub-district’s 2024 matriculants improved their results by 11% and now stand at 88.66%. According to NWK, they have been undertaking the project since 2013/2014 to support the studies of prospective tertiary students. The value of the donation is worth R283 000.
Benedict Modise, director of economic development at NWK, congratulated the matriculants on their hard work and dedication.
“You have proven that success comes to those who believe in themselves and strive for greatness. Keep inspiring others with your exceptional accomplishments. You have raised the bar for future matriculants,” Modise said.

He encouraged them to consider the diverse career opportunities that NWK offer and work at South Africa’s oldest agricultural company once they are qualified.
Marilie Rossouw of Hoërskool Lichtenburg is the top matriculant in Ditsobotla and boasts eight distinctions. She said it required hard work of many hours to achieve this significant result.
She advised future matriculants to never give up and keep on trying, even if they achieve poorer results in the record and other examinations. Rossouw will be studying towards a BSc in health sciences with biochemistry and physiology at the NorthWest University’s Potchefstroom campus.
“This laptop from NWK makes me feel truly special. My hard work was worth it and is being recognised,” she said.
Reaching for new heights
Another beneficiary of the donations, Galaletsang Tsetse of Bophirima Secondary School in Itsoseng, was ecstatic about her laptop.
“I am thrilled, my mother is unemployed. We have only two family members who are currently employed, but they don’t earn enough money to afford a laptop like this,” she said.
Tsetse said she will be studying social work at the University of Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, Oarabile Realeboga of Gaetsho Secondary School in Lichtenburg encouraged other matriculants not to let challenges hinder them from achieving great marks. He aims to acquire a degree in nursing from the University of the Free State.
“I like the subject of life sciences and I can feel in my heart that this is a career I must pursue,” Realeboga said.
Aobakwe Thuto Sebokolodi of Tau Rapulana Secondary School in Bodibe will be studying pharmaceutics at NorthWest University’s Potchefstroom campus. “It is awesome. I am very grateful,” he said.
