Last-minute registrations have officially opened for next week’s Pan-African Summit on Youth in Sustainable Agriculture, a continent-wide event to celebrate Food For Mzansi’s third year of existence.
Registrations for the virtual summit are currently streaming in from at least 15 different African countries. Seats are also filling up fast for the Pretoria-based event from which the summit will be live-streamed.
The Pan-African Summit on Youth in Sustainable Agriculture is powered by Access, the Nigeria-listed commercial bank. The summit hosts are Dawn Noemdoe, editor: audience and engagement at Food For Mzansi, and KwaZulu-Natal farmer Andile Ngcobo.
In her keynote address, Grace Obeda, the principal youth employment officer for the Côte d’Ivoire-based African Development Bank, will urge young farmers, agripreneurs and other attendees to think beyond farm jobs to reach sustainable development.
The A-list of other summit speakers include Rahmat Eyinfunjowo, co-CEO: operations at Nourishing Africa. She will join attendees live from Lagos, Nigeria to share how agri-food entrepreneurs are transforming Africa’s agricultural landscape.
Kazuki Kitaoka, coordinator of the World Food Forum (WFF) and head of the outreach, marketing and reporting unit at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), will address attendees from Rome, Italy.

Other summit highlights
- Attendees to the Pan-African Summit on Youth in Sustainable Agriculture can also look forward to an engaging session on climate-smart agriculture. For this, Marc Dumas-Johansen, an agriculture and food security specialist with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), will dial in from Songdo, Korea. The Cape Town-based Andrew Ardington, the president of the Regenerative Agriculture Association of Southern Africa, has also been confirmed.
- The founder of the Soweto-based iZindaba Zokudla farmers’ lab, Dr Naudé Malan, will encourage attendees to find opportunities by commanding the agricultural value chain. Malan is a senior researcher at the University of Johannesburg.
- Some of Africa’s most dynamic young farmers and agripreneurs will participate in two panel sessions. Panellists include Rodgers Kirwa from Kenia while South Africa will be represented by, among other leader farmers, Sibongile Cele, Eric Mauwane, Gugulethu Mahlangu and Annalea van Niekerk.
