Peritum Agri Institute marked a significant milestone in agricultural education with the official opening of its new academic year celebrated at the Leopards and Lace Venue in Bloemfontein, Free State. This event, led by directors Emmie Pietersen and Belinda Louw, showcased the institute’s continued commitment to shaping the future of the agricultural sector.
The ceremony heralded the launch of the higher certificate programme, designed to complement the diplomas in animal production and plant production. In addition, the institute expanded its curriculum to include the occupational certificate in grain depot management, a key offering aimed at addressing the growing demand for specialised training in grain storage and logistics.
Giving hope to agri colleges
With over 180 attendees, including parents, students, and lecturers, the ceremony highlighted the importance of hard work and dedication.
Guests were also introduced to the partnerships that Peritum Agri Institute has forged over the years. These include collaborations with industry leaders such as Senwes Equipment, John Deere, the Red Meat Producers’ Organisation, and Aeres University of Applied Sciences.

A key highlight of the event was the awarding of bursaries by Vinimark, demonstrating the institute’s ongoing efforts to make high-quality agricultural education accessible to deserving students.
Emmie Pietersen, in her address, reflected on her 24-year partnership with Louw and the institute’s remarkable growth over the years. “Not only do we recognize the talent in front of us today, but we also acknowledge the ever-growing need for educated professionals in the agricultural sector,” Pietersen said.
Nalize Scheepers, the institute’s academic head, noted Peritum Agri Institute’s status as the largest private agricultural college in South Africa, accredited by all relevant governing bodies.
“We remain committed to providing high-quality, industry-relevant education that empowers our students and strengthens the agricultural sector,” Scheepers said.
