Hello Mzansi!

This week has a public holiday when South Africa celebrates Human Right’s Day.

We’ll start off the week with a visit to the Maltento Black Soldier Farm in Cape Town on Monday, followed by an online feedlot webinar on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, we move to Witbank in Mpumalanga for a live auction, and on Thursday roads lead to Pretoria East in Gauteng for a food and wine market.

On Friday, we go back to where we started in Cape Town, when the cannabis expo kicks off in the Mother City.

Maltento’s black soldier fly farm visit

Maltento’s fly farm in Cape Town will host mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and premier Alan Winde for a tour of their insect breeding facility in Epping, Cape Town.

Using black soldier flies, Maltento is able to convert over 400 000 kgs of agro-processing waste, including spent grain from the beer industry, into high-performance, nutrient-dense proteins for pet and aquaculture feed. This innovative approach to waste management holds the potential to revolutionise the recycling landscape in South Africa, one larvae at a time.

Time: 09:00 – 10:00

Venue: Maltento Facilities, 19 Moody Ave, Epping, Cape Town

THE NEW FACE OF SOUTH AFRICAN AGRICULTURE

With 21 global awards in the first six years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication. It is a movement, unashamedly saluting the unsung heroes of South African agriculture. We believe in the power of agriculture to promote nation building and social cohesion by telling stories that are often overlooked by broader society.
