Hey there farmers! It is a another busy week on Mzansi’s agricultural calendar. Here’s what you can expect.
On Tuesday, Cannavigia and Cheeba Cannabis Academy invites you to an online webinar around cannabis farming compliance. On Wednesday, there’s Food For Mzansi’s Gather To Grow session on mopani worm processing, and an agricultural research conference in Pretoria.
Thursday offers a reminder to register for a food safety workshop, then the week closes off with a worm farming training session in KwaZulu-Natal.

Provincial agricultural market access summit
The North West department of agriculture and rural development, in collaboration with Sun City Resort, will host the first provincial agricultural market acccess summit for smallholder farmers in the province. This is hosted under the theme: “Linking North West Smallholder Farmers to Market”.
The three-day summit aims to broaden the basket of agricultural commodities and value-added products that are intended for local, and export markets. Farmers, organised agricultural formations, mining companies, and hospitality industry representatives are expected to be part of the three-day summit.

Compliance for commercial cannabis
Cannavigia and the Cheeba Cannabis Academy are hosting a cannabis webinar and you are invited. During the online session, experts will unpack quality management systems, standard operating procedures, and compliance for commercial cannabis farms.

Agricultural research council conference
The Agricultural Research Council (ARC) will host its maiden inter-campus hybrid research conference from Wednesday, 1 March to Thursday, 2 March.
The conference themed “The heat is on: The weird and the wonderful research in the ARC”, will see ARC scientists and researchers converge under one roof to share knowledge with their peers to encourage collaboration and bring about new ideas that can take the ARC to the next level.
The conference will also serve as a platform for sharing research findings and developments that can assist the country in dealing with several challenges in the agricultural sector. Retired researchers have also been invited to speak on different topics, such as climate-smart agricultural programmes.
The conference will be hosted at the ARC-CO, Hatfield, in Pretoria from 12:00.

Water rights summit, Paarl
Government is increasingly clamping down on farmers who are violating the National Water Act. Farmers across the country are being slapped with multi-million Rand fines, dragged to court and threatened with imprisonment. Renowned agricultural lawyer Katlego Ngwane, and other experts share insights into some of the hottest water rights dilemmas facing agriculture, including the transferability and trading thereof.
It is a half-day session.
