This week’s agri events include a Nelson Mandela Day commemoration celebration with minister Thoko Didiza, an online session on the legalities of marketing food, AgriSETA Roadshow in Stellenbosch, Gather To Grow twitter session, cannabis expo in Durban, and a Red Brangus cattle auction. It’s Nelson Mandela Week here in Mzansi! To kick off the week on the right note, farmers along with the national minister of agriculture will be giving back by serving locals in the Qunu Village, Eastern Cape on Monday.

Tuesday there is an online event to help you understand the legal and regulatory aspects of marketing foods, while Wednesday offers an AgriSeta stakeholder engagement event in Stellenbosch and twitter session with farmers on how to navigate load shedding.

Cannabis lovers in Durban, get ready because the Cannabis Expo 2022 is coming to you on Thursday. Friday takes us to a livestock auction with an impressive catalogue of red Brangus cattle on sale.

Monday, 18 July

Minister and farmers give their 67 minutes

The minister of agriculture, land reform and rural development, Thoko Didiza will lead activities that mark the commemoration of the Nelson Mandela International Day, at Qunu Village, in Mthatha. The event will be hosted at the Qunu Great Place and starts at 10:00.

Under the theme, “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are”, the minister will lead the commemoration of 67 minutes with the NARYSEC Youth. The youth will be giving back to their communities by fixing and erecting a fence at Madiba Farm and installing a new roof for the cattle shed in Qunu.

Furthermore, the minister will hand over much-needed food supplies and learning material to destitute households, to bring much-needed relief to the community.

Tuesday, 19 July

Legalities of marketing food

Do you need help understanding the legal and regulatory aspects of marketing foods? Then join the Good Food learning event hosted in partnership with HarvestPlus.

HarvestPlus team members Jenny Walton and Benjamin Uchitelle-pierce will present the innovation of bio-fortification, explain legal and regulatory aspects of marketing foods, and share inspiring stories of businesses who are growing because of bio-fortification. They will focus on opportunities in Nigeria, Kenya and India, but the content will be relevant to any business wanting to join the global fight to end malnutrition!

Get your hands on Brangus cattle

Get your hands on red Brangus cattle bred by Greendale Brangus in KwaZulu-Natal. The livestock auction hosted at the Mount Alice Farm in Winterton will have a total of 144 Brangus bulls and 120 Brangus females available for purchase.

All of these animals were bred and nurtured in the Heartwater, Redwater, and Gallsickness veld.
