Voermol Procon 33 takes livestock to the next level and beyond

Discover the inspirational journey of farmer Hlobisele Yende, whose passion meets innovation in Voermol’s Procon 33, shaping a future where livestock thrive and dreams flourish.

In the heart of Gauteng, farmer Hlobisele Yende finds inspiration in Voermol’s Procon 33, a high-protein concentrate with natural protein sources that mirrors her deep love for her animals. She shapes a future where her livestock thrives, inspiring fellow farmers to embrace excellence and nurture their dreams with the very best.

Yende is dedicated to providing the best products for her animals and describes Voermol Procon 33 as one of her favourite high-protein concentrate products due to the high bypass protein content and added mineral and vitamin components.

A lifesaver during weaning

“What I love about it is that we use it in creep feed to stimulate growth in our lambs. When we identify that our goats and sheep are ready to be weaned from their mothers, we continue with a modified creep feed containing Procon 33 to overcome the stressful weaning period,” she explains.

The product is suitable for animals in a production state, especially during lambing time, and aids in the healthy maturation of young animals such as heifers and lambs.

“This helps them maintain their weight without sudden drops. Sometimes, they experience shock transitioning from mother’s milk to solids, much like babies. However, they adapt well,” she says.

For cattle licks, if Procon 33 is used in conjunction with a product like Voermol Dundee Lick Concentrate, Procon 33, being an add-on protein, can constitute 5 to 10%t of the mix, enhancing the overall protein quality.

“With Procon 33, we faced no issues; the transition was smooth, unlike other products where we had to coax them into eating,” she elaborates.

Finding the best product on the market

For Yende, research, quality, and accessibility are paramount. She strives to find products that fit her budget and are readily available in her area. Voermol products are available nationwide, a significant advantage for farmers in remote areas.

“I opt for products that are both available and of high quality at our local AgriMark in Heidelberg,” she says.

Since she started working alongside her father, the Yende family has tried various products, but Voermol products have revolutionised their farming practices.

“I assess traditional methods that have proven effective compared to contemporary solutions. Voermol products align with our goals and aspirations, which is why we continue to use them. Although they are costly, the investment is justified.”

Advice to fellow farmers

As a woman in the agricultural sector, Yende recognises the challenges of gaining credibility. However, she emphasises that self-education opens doors to a different world.

“People take you seriously when you are well-informed, especially about what you feed your animals and when you educate yourself. Proper planning is essential,” she advises.

Additionally, she stresses the importance of research and product knowledge. “I appreciate that Voermol creates awareness and educates about their products. Apart from using it as livestock feed, I also wanted to learn more,” she concludes.

With 15 global awards in the first four years of its existence, Food For Mzansi is much more than an agriculture publication.
