Agriculture, land reform and rural development minister Thoko Didiza joined Food For Mzansi for an excessive interview minutes after the signing of the much-anticipated Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP).
The master plan is a “rigorous and evidence-based” document identifying specific issues that need to be addressed for the agricultural sector to grow inclusively and to boost employment.
Social partners have been building a framework for the AAMP since June 2020, and the process has been led by the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC), Bureau for Food and Agriculture Policy (BFAP) and the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED).
Stakeholder consultations have examined various agriculture and agro-processing sub-sectors and how these can be expanded to contribute to economic growth, inclusiveness and job creation. These efforts are also part of the broader Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan that President Cyril Ramaphosa announced late last year.
