Education was the cornerstone of Esther Mampane’s journey into agriculture. Pairing that with the environmental courses she did, this dynamic businesswoman sees agriculture as more than just farming but as a complex ecosystem.
Mampane is the founder and director of Westleigh Environmental Services, an environmental compliance and natural resources management company based in Gauteng.
In this episode of Farmer’s Inside Track, Mampane who is a jack of all trades shares her story. She believes that it is of utmost importance to take care of what we have to grow food sustainably “Before our farmers can put in seeds, seedlings and rear animals, they need to take care of their soils and take care of their water,” she says.
She also shares her career path and how her roles have gradually changed over the years. Today, she is passionate about protecting agricultural land in South Africa. “We are here as the protectors or the voice for our natural resources; how will our farmers plant if our soils are eroded?”
Mampane also talks about climate change and the impact not just on existing farmers but future farmers as well. “Our role is to ensure that our future generations can still have soil, healthy and clean water,” she says.
