Watch as the minister of agriculture, land reform and rural development, Thoko Didiza, signs the much-anticipated Agriculture and Agro-processing Master Plan (AAMP). The plan is meant to act as the framework for future job creation, inclusivity and growth in South Africa’s crucially important food production sector.
Social partners have been building a framework for the AAMP since June 2020, and the process has been led by the National Agricultural Marketing Council (NAMC), Bureau for Food and Agriculture Policy (BFAP) and the Centre for Competition, Regulation and Economic Development (CCRED).
Stakeholder consultations have examined various agriculture and agro-processing sub-sectors and how these can be expanded to contribute to economic growth, inclusiveness and job creation.
These efforts are also part of the broader Economic Reconstruction and Recovery Plan that President Cyril Ramaphosa announced late last year.
