Monday, 15 February
New episode of agriculture TV show
Tonight, in episode five of Vir die liefde van die land, we meet the inspiring Whernit Dirks, who has been rearing sheep and planting grain since 2012. In this episode, viewers learn why his transition from farmworker to farmer was both difficult and stressful. He also shares how becoming a father in his teens changed his perspective on life.
The ten-episode series Vir die liefde van die land (“For the love of the land”) is proudly presented by Food For Mzansi in collaboration with the VKB Group and WYRD Films. Catch tonight’s episode at 18:30 on VIA, DStv channel 147.

Day 1 of Global agriculture technology summit
This is a 24-hour virtual conference with key industry players discussing current issues and opportunities through the lens of science and technology.
The summit will also focus on mixtures of topics such as precision agriculture, vertical farming, talent management, water & soil management, fintech in agriculture, women in AgTech, cyber security and more.

Covid-19 and the health-energy-climate nexus
This workshop aims to strengthen the Africa-Europe partnership on climate change and sustainable energy by linking research and innovation hubs. Divided into two thematic sessions, it involves research and international institutions, academia, the private sector and policymakers.
Home gardens for resilience and recovery
The webinar series focuses on the challenges and opportunities of home garden interventions, and evaluation in crisis and humanitarian settings. Today’s webinar will feature experts on the impact of a nutrition-based income generation intervention in the Omugo Refugee Settlement in Uganda.

Didiza to speak at Women’s Political Participation
Thoko Didiza, the minister of agriculture, land reform and rural development, is the keynote speaker at today’s website launch of Women’s Political Participation (WPP) in Africa. She will be speaking on the importance of knowledge generation, and the visibility of the WPP’s work. The event is organised by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance and the Swedish government.
