The sun was shining down on the Tzaneen community as they gathered for Westfalia Fruit’s recent open day event. The anticipation in the air was palpable as both parents and students eagerly made their way, eager to get a first-hand view of the company’s community projects.
As they arrived, they were greeted by smiling faces and a warm welcome from the team. The event showcased the Limpopo-based company’s dedication to the community, particularly its early childhood facility and resource centre. Attendees were given a tour of the facilities and were impressed with the resources available.

Westfalia Fruit’s childcare centre had been in operation since 2006, and over the years, it had accommodated hundreds of children. The centre provided early childhood education and childcare to families in the Tzaneen and Modjadjiskloof areas.
It is staffed by 11 dedicated caregivers who provide a safe and nurturing environment for children aged between three months and five years. Recently, it received accreditation to also provide grade R classes, which is a significant achievement.

Also, the resource centre at Westfalia Fruit was equally impressive. It provided homework assistance, access to study resources such as a library, study rooms, computers, and Wi-Fi. It also offered tutoring in mathematics and science by a qualified teacher.
The additional tutoring had already led to a significant improvement in the school marks of learners in these subjects. Some of the learners who had benefitted from the centre’s resources had gone on to become teachers themselves, while others were pursuing careers in medicine and other fields.
