The South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers (SAIAE) cordially invites you to its International Symposium, set to take place from 13th to 15th November 2024 at the scenic Houw Hoek Hotel in Grabouw, nestled in the Western Cape.
This year’s symposium, held in collaboration with the Pan African Society for Agricultural Engineering (PASAE), promises to be a dynamic gathering centred on agricultural engineering advancements and global cooperation. Senzo Masikane, SAIAE Business Manager, expressed pride in achieving this milestone, underscoring the institute’s role in advocating for technology and engineering principles within the agricultural sector.
“Our institute is dedicated to promoting the adoption of technology and engineering principles within agriculture. By offering training, networking, and professional development opportunities to engineers, technicians, and technologists in the agricultural sector,” Masikane remarked.
Agricultural engineering is pivotal in ensuring food and water security, not only in South Africa but across the African continent. Masikane stressed the significance of agricultural engineers in upholding food quality, minimising waste, and implementing water conservation techniques.
Uniting agricultural engineers
The forthcoming symposium seeks to unite the agricultural engineering community to exchange knowledge and practices in various fields of agricultural biosystem engineering. Abstract submissions are currently open, encompassing topics ranging from agricultural engineering techniques, tools, innovations, to projects.
“We encourage attendees or delegates to bring along their spouses or partners to savour the experience with the agricultural engineering community in the splendid Western Cape locale,” Masikane added.
The event pledges technical presentations on captivating subjects, alongside field visits to river restoration projects and agri-processing facilities. Participants can anticipate engaging in dialogues concerning the future of agricultural engineering in South Africa, leveraging technological progress for sustainable and productive farming practices.
“I foresee agricultural engineering leading the charge in economic development across Africa, with evident technological strides. I envision agricultural engineering realising its full potential to forge a resilient, sustainable, and secure future for food production,” Masikane concluded.
In this episode, he also discusses:
- How agricultural engineering plays a crucial role in ensuring food; and
- The role of agricultural engineering in economic development.
