Sun International’s newly appointed head of sales, Andrew Camp, has outlined an ambitious roadmap to expand the company’s market share and revenue, leveraging his 30 years of sales and marketing experience, including 14 years in the hospitality industry.
With a diploma in marketing and business management from the Institute of Marketing Management, Camp brings a proven track record to his new role, which he officially assumed on 1 January 2025.
He previously served as Sun International’s head of international sales, where he steered the team through the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic and played a pivotal role in growing leisure product revenues post-recovery.
Strategic integration and revenue growth
Camp’s new responsibilities include leading the integration of the company’s international and national sales teams with the sports, events, and entertainment division. His primary objective is to implement customer-centric strategies that not only maximise revenue across the business but also deliver memorable experiences for guests.
“My focus is on customer acquisition, growth, reactivation, and retention strategies that drive revenue nationally and internationally,” said Camp. “Sports, events, and entertainment will be a major area of growth, especially single-day events, along with expanding the MICE market, international leisure groups, and tour series.
While Sun International is best known for its glittering arenas and world-class sporting events, Camp’s vision offers potential synergies for agricultural and rural tourism. Food For Mzansi co-founder Ivor Price says the company’s properties could become prime venues for agri-focused expos, conferences, and festivals, fostering collaboration between hospitality and agriculture.
The Nedbank Golf Challenge at Sun City, a highlight of the South African sporting calendar, is an example of Sun International’s ability to host world-class events. Expanding into eSports, CrossFit, and even weightlifting demonstrates the brand’s versatility and growing appeal to diverse markets.
Camp’s commitment to bolstering South African tourism is evident in his work with the Tourism Marketing South Africa (TOMSA) Board and the South African Tourism Services Association. His leadership in simplifying Chinese visa processes highlights his dedication to removing barriers to inbound tourism.
Beyond his professional endeavours, Camp is an avid outdoors enthusiast and fitness enthusiast, engaging in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, boxing, and running. Based in Johannesburg with his wife Ruth and their beloved pets, he brings a personal passion for exploration and connection to his professional role.
As Camp begins his tenure, Sun International’s strategic focus on integrating hospitality, sports, and entertainment positions it as a powerful player in driving tourism and economic growth across sectors—including agriculture.
