National minister of agriculture, land reform and rural development Thoko Didiza has announced that the N3’s entry points have been opened to allow for the flow of trade and supply chains.
This announcement was made during the minister’s recently concluded meeting with various stakeholders in the agricultural sector, where the state of agriculture in KwaZulu-Natal was being discussed.
The N3 is a strategic connection between Durban and Johannesburg and a provides crucial access to the Durban port. Parts of the highway were blockaded during the current unrest, stopping the essential transportation of agricultural goods and fuel.
This may have resulted in panic buying being reported in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng, as the blockading of this road stopped goods and produce from being able to go to where they are needed.
The outcomes of minister Didiza’s meeting are still to be announced.
