This week agriculture events include a drone pesticides conference, potato industry roundtable discussions, and the annual Agbiz congress.

This week we kick off with a drone conference for pesticides, followed by potato industry roundtable discussions, the annual Agbiz congress, Bonsmara cattle sale, vineyards winery dinner and much more. Photo: Supplied/Food For Mzansi

This week we kick off with a drone pesticides conference, followed by potato industry roundtable discussions, the annual Agbiz congress, a Bonsmara cattle sale and much more. Add your agriculture event to the calendar by sending an email to info@fooodformzansi.com.

Rise and shine Mzansi, there is no room for idle minds in agriculture as we start the week with a drone forum seminar hosted by Crop Life Africa. On Tuesday Potatoes SA hosts its first roundtable discussion on the state of the potato industry.

Wednesday we look forward to the Agbiz 2022 conference, and a Gather To Grow session with potato farmers. Thursday offers livestock farmers a Bonsmara cattle sale hosted by BKB and on Friday it’s party time with winemakers in Stellenbosch.

The event will zoom into key industry news and explore challenges that the fresh produce markets are facing, with a particular focus on the potato industry.

Wednesday, 22 June

All roads leads to Agbiz congress

From 22 to 24 June 2022, Agbiz welcomes you to their annual convention, which will be held in Sun City in the North West. At the Agbiz Congress 2022, agribusinesses and their input suppliers will present their latest goods and services as part of the trade show.

A number of breakout sessions is scheduled as well as the first-ever trade fair. Also on the agenda are golf tournaments and other entertainment.

Get you hands on Bonsmara cattle

BKB Group will host a Leeuwbult Bonsmara auction at the Whitfield Farm in Theunissen, Free State. An online version of the auction will take place on the BKB digital auction platform.

This year, 25 Bonsmara bulls and 60 females are on sale. All bulls have been Phase C-tested in the Leeuwbult Phase C-growing station. Those interested in viewing bulls will have the opportunity to do so on June 21.

Friday, 24 June

Stellenbosch winemaker’s dinner

Wine lovers and wine enthusiasts are very welcome to join the wine event that Haskell Vineyards and Rickety Bridge Winery are hosting. Speakers at the event include Rudolph Steenkamp, winemaker at Haskell Vineyards, who will be joined by Donovan Ackerman of Rickety Bridge, a winery in Franschhoek with a strong tradition of winemaking.

The dinner will be held in the winery’s popular Longtable Restaurant in Stellenbosch, and the overall goal of the event will be to educate attendees about various terroirs, or places and wines.
